YAMAHA Mate50 Impression
There are 4 types in Mate series. Those are 2-cycle (V type), 4-cycle "Town Mate" (T type), 2&4-cycle "News Mate" and 2&4-cycle "Postman Mate". News Mate is used newspaper delivaly. Mate of my parents' home is '85 V50 of 2-cycle. There was it from the time when I was schoolchild.
Valve type is crankcase reed valve. The 70's early period, YAMAHA RX350 and DT250('70) equipped piston reed valve for the first time in Japan. Also Mate, equipped it in V50('71) from U5('65) with rotary valve. And in '75, Mate equipped crankcase reed valve for the first time of Japanese motorcycles. The roots of the glory of RZV500R and TZR250 began from here.
This Mate was made in '85 and voltage is 6V. Starting is easy, but engine became high revolution type because my brother removed air duct between air cleaner and frame. So, there is a little peculiarity in the engine with all close to wide open.
Acceleration sound is normal at 30km to 40km. But, Mate plays good sound at 45km to over 60km. Mate's engine doesn't break no matter how it runs at high pace, as is expected of
business use motorcycle! I think.
The size of a slim tire be 2.25-17. So, I can lean very light. But, the step doesn't be folded, it is danger when step touches the ground. There are such cases at sharp corner.
The cowl of if that is a practical use car protects the lower of body of rider from cold rain and wind. The equipment of the basket is reasonable at working. The basket has load holding to make with spring, it will hold baggage tight, even if there is any bump? The front fender is shifted because my brother crashed car. (^^;
Mate's front shock is bottom link system. Front fork does peculiarity moving when braking. This system perplexs rider first. But rider can enjoy riding that will get used to operate it. There are many scenes that the situation of braking uses only rear or with front because rear brake's power is powerful.
This is Mate's rear view. The large-size taillight and carrier are reliable. Rear tire is seen wide than front tire. But, front and rear width are same (2.25in).
It is seen muffler to the right side. There are some variation of the muffler end. This thing is open type. Other, I see upper hole type well.
